Memorial Complex on the Mount Samokhval
Memorial Complex on the Mount Samokhval dedicated to the memory for those Khakassian warriors who perished during the defense of fatherland. Memorial continues an ancient Khakassian tradition of installation of the commemorative stelae — “Chaa tas”(in khakass “stones of war”).
Initiator of the memorial’s creation is the Council of Elders of the Khakassian people. The main idea is the unity of people living in the ancient khakassian land.
On the first square there is bronze sculpture of ancient warrior which stands on a heap of stones. According to the ancient custom, an outgoing to the battle warrior took along stone from his own land and kept it in one heap till return. In this way people fixed the amount of survived and fallen warriors.
Memorial line of the districts is located between two big squares. Eight vertical stelae dedicated to the memory of soldiers who were called up for army from the Altay, Askiz, Beya, Bograd, Ordzhonikidze, Tashtyp, Ust-Abakan and Shira districts and fell in battles during the Great Patriotic war.
The biggest place is called Square of festivities and rites. It is an open octagonal square which symbolizes yurt — home, where in every times sons, fathers, brothers and husbands come back after doing the sacred duty of every citizen — the defense of Homeland.
In the centre of square of festivities and rites there is a monument in memory of the forty thousands of soldiers fallen during the Great Patriotic war. Near the main monument sculptors of complex set up the sculpture of soldier. Young soldier in shirt of the Great Patriotic war times symbolizes the continuity of soldier’s generations, defending the Homeland at different times.
Both sides from the square of festivities and rites there are the graves of ancient warriors made in different ages: Okunev (the Early Bronze Age) and Askiz (the Early and the High Middle Ages).
