The Kashkulak cave is one of the most interesting natural monuments of the Republic of Khakassia. This picturesque cave is located in the mass of Mount Koshkulak, which is part of the Kuznetsk Alatau. The cave belongs to the category of karst caves. The depth of the cave is 49 meters, the length is 820 meters, and the capacity is about 56 thousand cubic meters. The cave has three entrances. The most famous is located at an altitude of more than 870 meters above sea level.
The Kashkulak cave is one of the most ancient caves in Russia, its age is over a million years! From ancient times to the present day, shamans have gathered at the entrance to the cave and performed their religious dances. The second name of the cave is "Black Devil's Cave". For the first time this cave was mentioned in the works of M.A. Zaitsev in 1904. In the post-war period (and especially in the 50s-70s). During the Civil War, a detachment of the white partisans under the leadership of Solovyov hid in the cave. The Kashkulak cave was an important object of research for archaeologists and paleontologists. Over the past decade, the cave has become a very popular tourist attraction. Some tourists reported that they had experienced hallucinations in the cave.
Many scientists speak of the Kashkulak cave as a "place of special power" and a "geodetic phenomenon". Since ancient times, local residents have legends that the cave is the residence of ghosts. But scientists who have recently explored the cave have concluded, that the source of people’s fear comes from infrasound with a frequency of 6 hertz, which the cave emits due to its geomagnetic anomaly.
