Lake Shunet is located at an altitude of 390 meters above sea level in a narrow mountain depression 18 kilometers southeast of the village of Shira, 8 kilometers south of Lake Shira. The lake is quite small and shallow, its length does not exceed 1 kilometer, and its width is 600 meters. The depth of the reservoir is about 3 meters.
The mineralization of water is about 15 g/liter, although it may vary depending on weather conditions. The composition of the water of the lake is sulfate-chloride, sodium-magnesium, close to the water content of Shira. Shunet has therapeutic muds in the center of the lake up to one meter thick. They were discovered here at the end of the 19th century, and until the 1920s, the Shira resort was provided with the mud from these places. After the exhaustion of mud supplies, the mud to the Shira resort was delivered from Lake Utichye, and for some time Lake Shunet remained forgotten, which made it possible to partially restore the stocks of therapeutic mud.
Although there are cold springs along the shores, the water in the lake is very warm. Due to its large area and shallow depth, Lake Shunet has quite comfortable beaches. However, the approaches to the lake are not as convenient as, for example, to Lake Shira or Bele, so the number of vacationers here is far fewer.
Along the shores of the lake, as in many places in the Shirinsky district, there are hills with menhirs and steles, mounds and ruins of fortresses related to the ancient times - it is literally an open-air museum. Those who love climbing can give themselves this pleasure on a mountain located by the lake.
