Cave Pandora's Box belongs to the famous caves of the Efremov karst area. The length of the cave is 11 kilometers, the depth is 182 meters, and on the lower level there are karst underground lakes. To approach the cave, one can follow the road from the village of Malaya Syya to the village of Efremkino, after which it is necessary to climb up 200 meters along the steep and crumbling canyon called Kamenny Meshok (Stone Bag).
For a long time, Pandora's Box, consisting of several small caves, was known thanks to the findings of archaeologists who discovered traces of ancient people there. The largest cave is called Shirokaya (Wide). Its name speaks for itself, because this cave is about 10 meters wide. The entrance to the cave is covered with finely broken stones and leads down to a wide and high grotto, the length of which is 40 meters. Local residents noticed that in some places and blockages of the cave, there appear circles covered with hoarfrost in winter. As a rule, this phenomenon occurs due to the fact that there is warm air underground, penetrating outside the cave in some places.
It can take about two days to explore the entire cave. In case you are unguided and don’t have appropriate training and equipment, you’d better not enter this cave and limit yourself to viewing the entrance grotto Shiroky (Wide) and walking around the surroundings.
